Helping you run events

About Me

I’m Col – an adventure-loving guy who sees running as an incredible way to explore. Over the years, I’ve thrown myself into all kinds of running and general outdoor experiences, from amazing ultras to epic mountain days. I have participated in awesome events and taken on my own self organised & self supported routes.

Along the way, I’ve developed a real understanding and passion for the nuts and bolts that go into planning these escapades, to make them seamless and more importantly, unforgettably enjoyable.

I know all about the trials and tribulations of these endeavours as a participant, and how important it is to have considered every eventuality so that people only have to focus on themselves and their bodies.

I want to help others explore the places I love as well as discovering what they are capable of, so I’m stepping away from the desk for a bit and to take on my own adventure.

How I can help

Volunteers currently play a crucial role in this industry, but perhaps the support and commitment they are able to offer is limited, but on the day, and prior to the event.

With smaller scale events largely organised by a single race director, spinning a million plates and relying heavily on the crucial support of volunteers, I provide an extra pair of hands who knows the event inside out.

Large scale events have more established support in place, but greater scope for unforeseen issues arising and maybe just need more bodies on the ground with an end to end understanding of the experience.

Who I’ve worked with

    • General event support for the assistant race director, ensuring seamless coordination of all event operations.

    • Aid station crewing, and volunteer management

    • Course and route planning & pre event reconnaissance and marking

    • Supplier, partner, and stakeholder liaison, and landowner communication

  • If you’re planning an epic, and need someone with experience and local knowledge on the ground to help with:

    • Logistics planning & routing

    • Driving

    • Pacing

    • General crewing

Examples could include the West Highland Way or the Ramsay Round

  • Perhaps you own a guiding company, or are taking groups out and need an extra pair of hands to help facilitate bigger numbers.

Or you’d like inspiration and experience in tackling new routes in unfamiliar terrain in Scotland.

Digital Consultancy

There’s so much more to the success of these events than the on the day experience. I understand the role of your website in generating awareness and engagement; application and payment tools to facilitate sign ups; and the importance of clear communication with volunteers and participants prior to the event, to create a safe and solid experience on the day itself.

My part time job as a digital consultant deals with all of these things every day, so I am perfectly placed to advise on the best way to navigate all of the challenges and headaches such as huge google drives and PDF document version control!

Let’s go

Every event is different, and there isn’t a one size fits all approach. Based in Scotland, I’m keen to work anywhere across the UK and beyond. So let’s chat and see if we could help each other.

And whilst I’m most experienced in running, any event outdoor event piques my interest!
